Social Wellbeing and Achdus

On the one hand,the Inyon of Bitul, which is evident in the Achdus with other Yidden…And on the other hand, together with the Bitul, must be evident the strong sense of self of each Yid in his own right, that each Yid is a ‘Mekabel Hatorah’, each according to his own level…

For a child to succeed in his learning, it is absolutely crucial that the feel happy and safe.  At MLTL we take these feelings very seriously.  A Talmid who is unhappy, whether because he is not getting along socially with his peers, or he feels he is being bullied, must be noticed and addressed.  Unfortunately, it happens in Yeshivos that a Talmid may feel unsafe, or is being exposed to harmful influences.  These kinds of experiences and environments can have an impact much further reaching that just during his Yeshiva years.

Siginicicant effort is made to help build positive relationships among the Bochurim.  In the Rebbe’s view, true Achdus requires two seemingly opposite qualities.  The inyon of Bitul, meaning that a person is able to connect even with those who are different, and sometimes very different from himself, as well as the strong sense of positive self image so that one feels confident in who he is and not threatened by a different type of person.  These ideas are woven into the lessons and Farbrengens that the Talmidim live with. Team building and cooperative activities are occasionally conducted in a fun and safe setting.  Focus on boys who may not be getting along is important and a little investment in those cases can have lasting positive effects.

We are very strict with bullying policies.  We recognize that bullying is just as hurtful and damaging to the bully as it is to the bullied child and we work with the parents and, if needed, professionals, to help both parties.

We pledge to the parents that we will make every effort possible to assure that negative and harmful content is not allowed in Yeshiva and at the homes of our Talmidim.  Unfortunately, in today’s age there are tremendous temptations in the form of internet and digital content that are harming our communities.  For the safety and wellbeing of our Talmidim, we enforce a very strict policy in this regard.  Please see our FAQ for more on this.
